Karroubi Meets with Student Reformist Group

Here is what happened:

Advar News: Some of the members of the Central Council of the Unity Consolidation Bureau (Tahkim-Vahdat, the main Reformist Student Organization) met and spoke with Mehdi Karoubi, the candidate who had the support of this organization during the tenth presidential election.
In this meeting Karoubi while pointing out the rumors about his possible arrest and the wave of new confrontations, and that whether these are new warnings and “some” of these have legal meanings or are the same as what had been heard for some time now, said: “Over the past few months the same things have been said over and over but we ask them does any of these many arrests that have happened until now have any legal justification that they are trying to find a legal excuse for [new] confrontations now? People know and have no doubt that all these arrests and courts are merely one political agenda.”

Karoubi, while indicating that the government insists that the phrase “forgery [in the election]” should not be used, added: “We believe that each candidate’s was allotted a portion of the casted votes. All the efforts of the government are to convince people that Ahmadinejad’s share in this election was 25 million and based on what they announced my share was 350 thousands of votes.”

Mehdi Karoubi while emphasising that the constitution should be the base, added: “Of course we all know that the constitution is not perfect but know that if over these years this very constitution and all of its principles were followed clause by clause, today the country was not facing all these problems.” He also reiterated: “Of course I have always insisted that we mean the constitution that 98 percent of the people voted in favour of it not the “constitution” that some are interpreting.”

Karoubi, while emphasising on the need for maintaining forces and having an organizational unity, added: “In this circumstance it is necessary that the activists maintain their network and use the opportunities for meeting and gatherings, and don’t let people to be pushed to corners. Activists should announce their ideas and in our ideas and methods we should emphasise on those that are based on the national and religious identity of our beloved Iran like the anniversary of the victory of the revolution, the celebration of Ghorban (one of the Muslims’ celebrations after Haj), and Ashora (the day Imam Hossein – the third Imam of Shea – was martyred). Today my advice to you is to maintain forces and ideas and to retain our just position.”

Karoubi in another part of his remarks by pointing out the condition of the universities, said: “Although today they imprison the students and forbid them from continuing their education, try to maintain all forces, strengthen networks and set up your meetings.”

At the end of his remarks Karoubi said: “The fate of our dear Iran with that proud heritage and civilization is not the current situation as the country is being governed in a way that the nation feels ashamed. We should know that in all these problems, there are hidden goods and perhaps lessons for all of us
