At a protest today at Ghazvin University, students chanted "Those who have cheated in the election has also ripped apart the pictures.." signifying that the regime itself was the one who desecrated the photo of Khomeini. More symbolically, it could also mean that they have desecrated his vision of an Islamic Republic:
