Khatami's Move

Another significant aspect of Khatami's proposal is that he is seeking to work within the law and current system of the Islamic Republic to resolve the current crisis. This is primarily to counter accusations that the reformists want to destroy the entire Islamic Republic and are acting outside the law. This puts pressure on the regime to respond and to no longer break the laws by arresting political prisoners and breaking up peaceful protests.
