BBC Persian and Iranian media is reporting that Rafsanjani will not lead this Friday's Prayer ceremony after all.
It seems the official reason the regime is giving is that they do not want the sermon to lead to "clashes". Yet if he does not lead the prayers, then it is clear that the regime has enough clout to stop him doing what he wants. The regime certainly did not want a repeat of the last time he led prayers.
We will have to wait and see how this develops.
