Shahroudi Will Retire As Head of Judiciary

Ayatollah Shahroudi is going to retire as the head of Iran's judiciary and will be replaced by Mohammad Sadeq Larijani. Larijani is a cleric and the brother of the speaker of the parliament Ali Larijani.

Shahroudi was a hardliner, but he also recently ordered the release of some prisoners along with some basic rights for prisoners. Although he obviously did not do his job of upholding the law and punishing those who broke it. There is no indication to show that he was fired instead of retiring because he did serve for nearly 10 years.

We will have to wait and see what Larijani will do, but my guess is just follow whatever Khamenei will say. Also the head of the judiciary is appointed by Khamenei so this might show the closeness between Khamenei and the powerful Larijani family,
