U2 Linking Regime to Imperialist

Here is one of the performances in which the band U2 performs the song "Sunday Bloody Sunday" in green to support the people of Iran:

I am not sure if U2 actually thought of this, but this song is particularly great for the current situation because it equates the regime to imperialist. The song was originally written against British aggression in their colonial occupation of Northern Ireland. By playing this song in the current context, U2 is saying that the regime is the same as British imperialist.

This linkage is important because the regime claims to be constantly fighting against imperialism. Yet the people of Iran are not against imperialism for the sake of being against it. They are against it because it robs the people of Iran from being able to control their own government and because it suppresses Iranian voices. That is exactly what this regime is doing and so it is as bad as any imperialist power. Thus the people of Iran are against tyranny whether is comes from imperialist or from this regime.
