According to multiple sources, Khamenei has issued an order to arrest Karroubi almost 2 weeks. Given this stunning information, Khamenei's sermon of threats today makes more sense as perhaps a final warning to Karroubi to be quite. As the New York Times reports,
"A person close to Mr. Rafsanjani, who asked for anonymity because of the sensitivity of the subject, confirmed the report, saying the order was issued at least two weeks ago. That left open the possibility that Ayatollah Khamenei’s speech was something of a final warning to Mr. Karroubi."
If these reports are true, it is interesting to see that the regime does not want to reconcile and will be a complete military fascist state. Also it is interesting to see that the regime has not carried out the order meaning that they understand the potentially destabilizing affects. Given that fact, it may more of a threat as opposed to an actual warrant for arrest. In any event, it is taking the current situation into a dangerous new direction.
