Abdulkarim Souroush was one of the leading Islamic intellectuals in the aftermath of the 1979 Revolution and helped to justify the Islamic Republic. He has published an open letter to Khamenei in which he blasts his leadership. His message:
"I know that you are having hard and bitter days. You made a mistake, a big mistake. I showed you the solution for this mistake... twelve years ago. I told you to consider freedom as a method and disregard the fact that it is a right and a virtue.”
