Rafsanjani Urges People to Attend Qods Day Rally

In his usual manner, Rafsanjani seems to support the Green movements efforts to get people out on the streets for protests this Friday on Qods. Although he never explicitly cites the current political situation, it is clear that he is using code to support protests. As Mousavi's FB translates:

Ayatollah Hashemi-Rafsanjani in a statement while inviting everyone to participate in Qods Day rally, called this event “an eternal warning to ignorant”. This statement calls for “condemning crimes and totalitarianism of the minority”. According to Ayatollah Hashemi-Rafsanjani Qods Day demonstration “will shake the spider web-like foundations of despotism” and adds that “It is always the darkest before dawn”.

Also NIAC summarizes:

While the declaration makes no mention of the fragile domestic situation in Iran, it can be seen to have greater significance in light of the worsening relations between him and the Supreme Leader, as well as Rafsanjani’s earlier statement that he would resign from his posts if Karroubi were “harmed.” By showing his power to mobilize the people, he may be attempting to forestall possible future attacks against him and his family by the new government and its supporters.
