The Will of the People Cannot Be Curshed

Despite the suppression of the government, the people of Iran still support the Green Movement and will continue their resistance. This article gives some good interviews with Iranians in particular this one captures the mood of the Iranian people.

Saman too is in the city everyday because of his job. He says, “Even though people are threatened everyday, the annual Ghods (Palestine) day is now the topic of everybody’s conversation and people will definitely use the day to continue their protests.”

“The cancellation of Ehya (a religious ceremony during the month of Ramadan) ritual in Khomeini’s shrine and the cancellation of ayatollah Taleghani’s death anniversary have had a special effect on the public, especially the religious groups. They are all very critical of deaths and crimes that have been committed and even though many public communication channels have been shut, everybody knows that the government has engaged in violence and many say that these people (i.e. the government) are worse than the Shah as they have killed a lot of young people. Now everybody says that the state is in fear and that Ahmadinejad’s administration will last till its end.”

According to Saman, people have prepared themselves for the arrest of Mir-Hossein Mousavi and Mehdi Karoubi. “Some even say that they (i.e. government agents) may besiege the homes of Khatami, Mehdi Hashemi and even Rafsanjani himself. There is no doubt that if something like this happens people will pour into the streets and the state will loose control for good,” he continues.
